Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), Nemesis, c.1501. Accession number: P.3019.

Nemesis as a personification of disapproval of the arrogance of humans. In Dürer’s engraving goddess of retribution, balanced upon a sphere, flies above a town in an Alpine landscape. In one hand she holds an ornate goblet, in the other a bridle- perhaps to curb human ambition and pride.

Nemesis was hand traced and transformed into a colouring sheet by Hannah from our Visitor Team.
