Festive Artworks Come to Animal Crossing: Greetings Card from ‘The Year and its Festivals’: ‘Christmas Day’

This winter some of the Whitworth’s festive artworks have come to Animal Crossing for you to enjoy in-game. We’re kicking things off with a Christmas card from Walter Crane. Keep your eyes peeled for more festive artworks popping up throughout December.

Walter Crane (1845-1915), “Greetings card with illustration from ‘The Year and its Festivals’: ‘Christmas Day'”, accession number: WCA. 1.2.5.84

We thought it fitting to open up our advent calendar with a Christmas card by Walter Crane himself.

Famed for his illustrations and published by Marcus Ward & Co., this beautiful greetings card features carollers singing outside on a cold, snow-laden day.

English Christmas carols first came around in 1426, with its origins from Wassailing (source: Plymouth University). People still continue to travel door to door carolling in small groups to this day, however more commonly, you will find an organised Christmas carol service or event in your local area.

Unfortunately, we’re not able to offer you a carol service this time, however for any Animal Crossing fans out there, we have recreated this work in the game.

You can find a download code below to bring our digital artist in residence’s work to your world as a keepsake.

There will be two others released in the Whitworth’s Advent Calendar in the coming weeks, so do look out for them!
